Fix Sideways Phone Photos in Seconds
Photos taken on a phone often arrive rotated: the camera sensor records them one way and the viewer shows them another. The result is a portrait shot lying on its side, or a scanned document that is upside down. Rotating the file once and saving it fixes the problem everywhere, not just in a single app.
Toolnova rotates the pixels directly on a canvas inside your browser. That means no upload, no compression queue, and no waiting for a server to return your file. You can rotate left, rotate right, flip horizontally, or flip vertically, and apply several turns in a row before downloading.
Choose PNG when the image has transparency, JPG for a small photo file, or WebP for a modern format that is even lighter. The export keeps the full pixel dimensions of the source image, so nothing is scaled down.
Key features & capabilities
Frequently asked questions about Rotate Image
Common questions about usage, privacy, limits, and browser compatibility.
Does rotating an image reduce its quality?
A quarter turn is lossless because the pixels are simply rearranged, so no detail is lost in the rotation itself. Saving as JPG re-encodes the file once, which introduces a small amount of compression. Choose PNG or WebP if you want to avoid that entirely.
Can I rotate a photo that is slightly tilted?
This tool is built for quarter turns and mirrors, so it corrects sideways and upside-down photos. A small tilt needs a free-angle rotation, which the Image Cropper can help with by trimming the edges after you straighten the shot. Use whichever tool matches the correction you need.
Which file formats are supported?
You can open JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and most other formats your browser can display, up to 25 MB. The export format is separate, so a PNG can be saved as JPG or the other way round. Animated GIFs are exported as a single frame.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read with the browser's File API and drawn on an offscreen canvas that never leaves your device. There is no upload step, no temporary cloud bucket, and no copy stored after you close the tab.
Why does my rotated photo look the same afterwards?
Some viewers and messaging apps read the EXIF orientation tag and rotate the picture themselves. When you download the rotated file, the new orientation is already baked into the pixels, so any app that ignores EXIF will now show it correctly.
Can I rotate many images at once?
The tool handles one image per session so you can check the result before saving. For batches, rotate and download each photo in turn, or open the page in a second tab and work on the next file while the first downloads.
