About this tool

High-Accuracy In-Browser Optical Character Recognition

Transcribing printed invoices, book quotes, paper receipts, or screenshots manually is slow and prone to typographical errors. Traditional OCR portals require uploading scanned records to remote cloud servers, which introduces privacy concerns for personal documents.

Toolnova Image to Text OCR utilizes WebAssembly-compiled Tesseract optical character recognition directly inside your web browser. Recognition models analyze character glyphs, baselines, and letterforms on your device CPU.

You get an interactive text box where you can inspect extracted copy, edit characters, and immediately export to clipboard or a text file without any server involvement.

Frequently asked questions about Image to Text (OCR)

Common questions about usage, privacy, limits, and browser compatibility.

What languages does the OCR support?

The language menu covers English, Hindi, Spanish, French, and German. Pick the language that matches the document before you extract, because recognition accuracy drops when the setting and the text disagree. Other languages are not offered in this version of the tool.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

Recognition runs inside your browser using a WebAssembly build of Tesseract, so the image itself never leaves your device. The engine and language files are downloaded from Toolnova's own server the first time you use the tool, then cached by your browser. Receipts, contracts, and other sensitive scans are never transmitted or stored.

Can it read handwritten notes?

The engine is tuned for printed text such as books, receipts, labels, and screenshots. Neat block lettering may come through, but cursive and casual handwriting usually produce errors. For handwritten pages, expect to correct a fair amount of the output by hand.

What image formats can I use?

The uploader accepts common image files such as JPG, PNG, and WebP. Photos from recent iPhones in HEIC format, and PDFs, are not handled on this page, so convert them to JPG or PNG first. Larger, sharper images take longer to process but usually recognize better.

How do I get the most accurate text extraction?

Use a sharp, well-lit image with strong contrast between the text and the background, and keep the page straight rather than tilted. Crop out borders, logos, and empty margins so the engine focuses on the text, and set the correct language before running. Review the output in the editor, since a few characters will often need fixing.

Can I edit the result before saving it?

Extracted text opens in an editable box, so you can correct mistakes or add notes before doing anything else. From there you can copy it or download it as a .txt file named after the original image. No account is needed to save the file.
