About this tool

Convert PDFs to Editable Word Documents Locally

Locking text inside a PDF file makes simple edits frustrating and tedious. Re-typing reports, academic papers, and business proposals manually is a massive waste of productive hours.

Toolnova PDF to Word parses document text structures using client-side PDF rendering technology and compiles a native OpenXML (.docx) file in browser memory. You receive an editable document without exposing proprietary contracts or intellectual property to remote cloud processors.

Please note: this tool is engineered primarily for text-based and digitally created PDFs. Scanned image-based documents without text layers should first be processed with our Image-to-Text OCR tool.

Key features & capabilities

Exports standard Microsoft Word .docx format compatible with all office suites
Preserves paragraph breaks, headings, and sequential textual flow
Immediate client-side document assembly with no queuing or wait times
Private and secure: zero external server calls

Frequently asked questions about PDF to Word

Common questions about usage, privacy, limits, and browser compatibility.

How accurate is the PDF to Word conversion?

The converter extracts the text layer line by line and rebuilds paragraphs, headings, and reading order in a standard DOCX file. Simple reports and text-heavy documents usually need little cleanup, while multi-column layouts, tables, and exact spacing may shift. Images are not carried over, so a design-heavy PDF is better converted with layout tools.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?

A scanned PDF is an image with no text layer, so the converter cannot pull words out of it and will tell you no selectable text was found. Run the scan through an OCR tool first, then convert the resulting searchable PDF. Photos of documents have the same limitation.

Is it safe to convert confidential PDFs to Word?

Conversion takes place inside your browser, so the PDF is never uploaded or processed on a remote server. Contracts, research drafts, and internal reports stay on your device throughout. There is no sign-up and no retained copy after the tab closes.

What is the maximum file size for PDF to Word?

There is no fixed size limit; available device memory and the number of pages determine what finishes comfortably. Dense, image-heavy PDFs take longer because each page must be parsed for text. For a very large report, converting it in sections is more reliable.

Can I edit the converted file in Word or Google Docs?

The output is a standard .docx file that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, and Apple Pages. You can edit the text, apply styles, and save it back as a Word document or export a fresh PDF. Formatting that the original PDF did not store as text will not appear.

Does the converter work with password-protected PDFs?

A password-protected PDF cannot be parsed, and the tool will ask you to unlock it before converting. Open the file in a PDF reader, enter the password, and save an unprotected copy. Then convert that copy to Word.
